Elon Musk Launches X.AI to Rival OpenAI and Google as Generative AI Spreads Across World
Not long after Elon Musk called for an AI development pause, the OpenAI co-founder went on to publicly announce his new company called X.AI and his goal to develop a competing platform to ChatGPT called TruthGPT. This announcement confirmed a wide array of rumors since Elon had previously mentioned his intent to create an "everything app" called "X". This also coincided with reports that Twitter has merged with a shell company called X Corp.
With the rapid scaling of ChatGPT, other generative AI solutions focused on text-to-image and text-to-video have also exploded in popularity. After launching its fifth generation solution, Midjourney had to unfortunately pause its free trial offering as fake images sparked controversy and went viral. Moreover, graphic design focused companies Canva and Adobe announced their own AI services which now brings the AI battle to new heights in the world of designers and creatives.

Elon Musk Founds New AI Company Called X.AI
Since walking away from OpenAI in 2018 after co-founding the company in 2015, Elon Musk has remained vocal in his opposition to OpenAI, citing ethical concerns over the company's switch from non-profit to "capped profit" and potential dangers of AI replacing humans as his reasoning. Elon continues to voice concerns after he fired the ethics team and cutting staff from 7,500 to 2,000 at Twitter, leading many experts to call him out as hypocritical.
The Twitter CEO then made an announcement this month that he would start his own AI company to rival OpenAI, bringing into question his request for a pause on AI. Regardless of the criticism, Musk now joins the ongoing AI wave with his new venture. Read more about his announcement here.
Forbes Announces The AI 50 for 2023 Which Includes AIP Affiliate
The companies on the 2023 list have collectively received $27.2 billion in funding. While a sizable portion, headlined by Microsoft’s $10 billion investment in OpenAI, was raised within the past year, many honorees have been building with AI well before the present gold rush. While the rest of venture capital suffers from the market pullback, the AI sector has boomed. Adept, Anthropic and Cohere are among companies founded in the last two years to have secured hundreds of millions in investment. Midjourney and Surge AI, on the other hand, have rapidly amassed impressive customer bases without raising a cent. See the article and full list here.

The Next Arms Race: China Leverages AI for Edge in Future Wars
As Beijing focuses on a defense strategy for what it calls the “new era”, their aim is to integrate these innovations into the People’s Liberation Army, creating a “world-class” force that offsets U.S. conventional military supremacy in the Indo-Pacific and tilts the balance of power. Not only does China plan to become the world’s leading AI power by 2030, Beijing has also turned to a military-civil fusion strategy to achieve it. This approach has enabled the country to speed up defense innovations by eliminating barriers between China's civilian research and commercial sectors, and its military and defense industrial sectors. MetaHuman Animator Tool is 2023’s Latest AI-Powered Disruption
Recently, Epic Games demonstrated a new technology, currently available in private beta and due for public release this summer. Called MetaHuman Animator, it can take raw video from an iPhone and map a fully three-dimensional model of a face that, in a game world, can not only laugh and cower and yes, growl, but also mimic all the subject’s other facial expressions with disturbing accuracy. Those expressions could come to life in an avatar being controlled by a human game player or in the face of an AI-powered NPC or non-player character. Or two NPCs. Or 200 of them.
